"Glad of it," "Serves them right;" ast resting place in the Detroit cemetery I loirs, per 1(10 .....3 MTii 40 ing in any criticism, as it is not the province of the press to epeak hastily and without careful thought upon judicial proceedings, but wo do say that this community has just as much confidence in the integrity and honor of John M. Gleisner to-day, since his conviction, as they had before. They not and will not believe that he is a criminal. Character is worth something in this community, and no man in this county or in this state has built up a purer anil more enduring manhood than he. The question arises to our mind and we submit it to our readers to be answered.

Is this justice? Is a young man in the very prime of his manhood, in the primary effort of his life to establish a business and reputation for honor and integrity be condemned, and branded as a convict for the gratification of a political heresy? We say no! It shall not be. The patriotic blood which courses the veins of every God-fearing and honest man within our state limits would boil over were a system of tyrany like this attempted. We are iow as a state, S3 "a city and as a people reaping the whirlwind as the result ot a superfluous amount of wind, sown within the past five years. We have brought this state of aflairS upon ourselves, and must abide by the results. The great and popular tidal wave of a few years ago, wherein a majority of our American-born freemen voted and argued in behalf of the mandates laid down by demagogues and played-out political shysters, brought this state of affairs upon us.

It poses as intending to subserve the ends of justice, when in reality if is the very travesty of justice. Mr. Gleissner is occupying the couch of a Kantas criminal at the moment when these lines are being written. His loving and estimable wife, in her efforts to caress and comfort him, is but ministering to the form of a criminal a declared by a Kans: court of justice. The little babe in its innocent and angelic prattle, thank heaven, cannot realize the pangs of sorrow and misery of its parent.

What is this young life sacrificed for? What do we accomplish as a city or as a people by damaging this young man's record in life? Is our city elevated to any higher plane of morality by so doing? Is any person or any class of peple benefited by the act. We think not We know that chagrin, sorrow and perchance misery will be the fte of the party interested, and the world no better off. This state of aff.hs will continue in our midst and throughout the state so long as men who claim to be free bnrn, and vntrammelbd by any of tlie latter day isms, continue to pander to tl dictates and desires of cranks, shysters and demagoaues. with imaginary ideas that hypocrisy is the foundation for true liberty ami happiness.
